Verse 69:1

اَلۡحَـآقَّةُ ۙ‏

The Inevitable Reality.

Verse 69:2

مَا الۡحَـآقَّةُ​ ۚ‏

How awesome is the Inevitable Reality?

Verse 69:3

وَمَاۤ اَدۡرٰٮكَ مَا الۡحَــآقَّةُ ؕ‏

Ah, what can give you an idea what the Inevitable Reality is!

Verse 69:4

كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُوۡدُ وَعَادٌۢ بِالۡقَارِعَةِ‏

Thamud and 'Aad denied the day of Catastrophe (Resurrection, 101:1).

Verse 69:5

فَاَمَّا ثَمُوۡدُ فَاُهۡلِكُوۡا بِالطَّاغِيَةِ‏

As for Thamud, they were destroyed by a thunderous blast.

Verse 69:6

وَاَمَّا عَادٌ فَاُهۡلِكُوۡا بِرِيۡحٍ صَرۡصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍۙ‏

And as for 'Aad, they were annihilated with raging hurricane winds,

Verse 69:7

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ سَبۡعَ لَيَالٍ وَّثَمٰنِيَةَ اَيَّامٍۙ حُسُوۡمًا ۙ فَتَرَى الۡقَوۡمَ فِيۡهَا صَرۡعٰىۙ كَاَنَّهُمۡ اَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ​ ۚ‏

That He caused to rage upon them for seven long nights and eight long days. Such that you could imagine those people as uprooted hollow palm trunks.

Verse 69:8

فَهَلۡ تَرٰى لَهُمۡ مِّنۡۢ بَاقِيَةٍ‏

Verse 69:9

وَجَآءَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ وَمَنۡ قَبۡلَهٗ وَالۡمُؤۡتَفِكٰتُ بِالۡخَـاطِئَةِ​ۚ‏

And there came Pharaoh, and many others before him, and the townships that were overthrown. All of them committed fault upon fault

Verse 69:10

فَعَصَوۡا رَسُوۡلَ رَبِّهِمۡ فَاَخَذَهُمۡ اَخۡذَةً رَّابِيَةً‏

For, they disobeyed the respective Messengers of their Lord. Consequently, He grasped them with a firm grasp.
