Verse 20:1

طٰهٰ​ ۚ‏

T.H. Ta-Ha! (O Ideal Prophet!)

Verse 20:2

مَاۤ اَنۡزَلۡـنَا عَلَيۡكَ الۡـقُرۡاٰنَ لِتَشۡقٰٓى ۙ‏

We have not bestowed upon you this Qur'an to cause you any hardship.

Verse 20:3

اِلَّا تَذۡكِرَةً لِّمَنۡ يَّخۡشٰى ۙ‏

But, only as a Reminder to those who fear (faltering in their journey of life). [Khashiyyah = Fearing = Being in awe = Being awestruck. Compare with Taqwa meaning journeying through life in security. This verse is commonly translated ending with 'those who fear (God)'. See Preface for Taqwa]

Verse 20:4

تَنۡزِيۡلًا مِّمَّنۡ خَلَقَ الۡاَرۡضَ وَالسَّمٰوٰتِ الۡعُلَى ؕ‏

A revelation from Him Who has created the earth and the glorious heavens.

Verse 20:5

اَلرَّحۡمٰنُ عَلَى الۡعَرۡشِ اسۡتَوٰى‏

The Beneficent, established on the Throne of Almightiness. [He maintains Supreme Control over all that He has created]

Verse 20:6

لَهٗ مَا فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَمَا فِى الۡاَرۡضِ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَا وَمَا تَحۡتَ الثَّرٰى‏

Unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens, all that is on the earth, all that is between them and all that is beneath the soil. [All things in the Universe follow His laws]

Verse 20:7

وَاِنۡ تَجۡهَرۡ بِالۡقَوۡلِ فَاِنَّهٗ يَعۡلَمُ السِّرَّ وَاَخۡفٰى‏

And if you speak aloud, then He knows the secret thoughts, as well as what is yet more hidden.

Verse 20:8

اَللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ ​ؕ لَـهُ الۡاَسۡمَآءُ الۡحُسۡنٰى‏

God! There is no god but He. To Him belongs the Most Beautiful Names. [His alone are the attributes of perfection]

Verse 20:9

​وَهَلۡ اَتٰٮكَ حَدِيۡثُ مُوۡسٰى​ۘ‏

Has there come to you the history of Moses?

Verse 20:10

اِذۡ رَاٰ نَارًا فَقَالَ لِاَهۡلِهِ امۡكُثُوۡۤا اِنِّىۡۤ اٰنَسۡتُ نَارًا لَّعَلِّىۡۤ اٰتِيۡكُمۡ مِّنۡهَا بِقَبَسٍ اَوۡ اَجِدُ عَلَى النَّارِ هُدًى‏

When he saw a fire (in the desert), he said to his family, 'Wait! I perceive a fire. Perhaps I can bring you a burning torch from there or find some direction at the fire.' [27:7, 28:29]
